As a child growing up in the 90s, you better believe I had a fanny pack. That big pouch in the front with my Tamagotchi hanging from the side had everything important inside. As an adult though? Not so much. If I’m not carrying a purse, I need to shove what I can into my pants pockets (if I’m not wearing a dress) and go. Limber Stretch wanted to send me a hip hug, something that was somewhere in between, to help with my frequent Summer trips with the kids.
Wearing a purse doesn’t always work. It can get heavy and if you’re wearing a tank or halter top, it’s going to leave a tan line hanging out in the middle of nowhere on one side. Not good. As someone who regularly doesn’t have pockets though, sometimes a purse has been my only option. I recently got new pants (finally) only to realize that my phone didn’t fit into them without being really uncomfortable and putting my cards and ID in the other side wasn’t feeling all that great either.
On our recent trip to the zoo, I decided to try wearing my new hip hug from Limber Stretch instead. I put my phone in the dedicated upright pocket, slid my ID, zoo card, and credit card in the secure little slit-like pocket on the other side, and went for it. I’ve been wearing it since when I’m going for walks with the kids (legit use for yoga pants) too. So far, I’m really enjoying the design. You can wear it over pants but under a top or just let it hang out. It looks like a big spandex belt, so it’s not especially obnoxious or distracting.
There are two matching slits in the back that match the one in the front, all connecting to the same empty tube inside to store things. The only thing that’s separate is the phone pocket. I would like to see some kind of barrier to close off the sections to prevent whatever you’ve put inside from floating around from the front to back, but since I put the cards into the front and toward the center (over my belly button), they didn’t seem to move at all.
Overall the hip hug stayed very comfortable, although I did find myself sweating under it more than I would have liked. I’m not as small as the models for the product, but I still had no trouble using their sizing chart on Amazon to find one that would fit me well. It stayed secure around my hips and let me avoid having to take my big (very messy) purse along with me on our family trips.
