Over on my fashion blog, I recently gave away a Pattern LA diaper bag. It was pretty enough to use as a purse. Turns out that if I had paid more attention, I would have known earlier that Pattern LA actually has really stylish purses. So in very “me” fashion, I had to get one.
I’m going to preface the rest of this with a piece of information that I know is really important to some of you: This is a real leather purse. For some that’s a turn off, but for some it doesn’t make a difference. I personally do own a leather trench coat that I’ve had for over a decade and I like that real leather tends to last. That said, the company is planning a line of vegan-friendly totes as well, so that’s a plus for everyone.
We’re not going to talk about how long I sat debating between the black and navy for this, but I knew I wanted their signature tote. This particular purse went with me shopping for groceries and on a trip to the mall. I think it survived the wardrobe change quite well, don’t you? This week my youngest son was sick with a cold and was running a fever, so I poured all of my time into him and ended up running my errands in a totally “mom” outfit. (Thanks to my own mom who picked me up a pair of sneakers as a gift because she was tired of seeing me always in sky high heels.)
I was able to hide away my son’s favorite water bottle, a pack of tissues, and a bag for the used up tissues inside the handbag while we were out along with my other things.
It’s shocking how good a coat can look when you get one that flatters your shape. You can’t even tell I’m rocking an old t-shirt under there. Switch out the mom shoes for a new pair of sparkly silver heels with black bows, add a frilly lace coat, and this new handbag transitions into an accessory for a much more stylish look.
Here are some close-ups of the bag. The symbol poked through it over and over is actually the company’s logo. The “tt” and symbol in the middle of Pattern LA is a nod to the owner’s former company, which had the initials “tt”.
I love that there’s a little privacy pocket built into the side. i don’t think enough totes have a feature like this for putting little items that you can’t risk falling out or items you don’t want showing through (hello, tampons).
Somewhere between the diaper bag I gave away and this tote, they have a transitional bag which I should have paid attention to earlier since we’re TTC. It has an exterior very similar to the bag I have, with the symbols just punched into the leather a little smaller, but it’s lined inside with pockets and compartments like a baby bag is. This transitional bag is vegan leather. Need.
